Weekly Overview
Drivers travelling through South East London and towards Kent should be aware of several scheduled highway restrictions during the first full week of November.
The most significant confirmed programme involves overnight maintenance at the Dartford Crossing, where closures are scheduled on the northbound tunnels.
Closer to London, continuing works along the A206 affect Woolwich Church Street and Plumstead Road.
Kent County Council has also issued a temporary traffic order for overnight restrictions on the A225 Hawley Road near the M25.
A separate closure is planned in Eltham on Sunday 8 November for a Remembrance parade.
These are planned restrictions identified in published notices and highway authority information. They do not establish that congestion or delays are occurring at the time of reading.
1. Dartford Crossing: Overnight Tunnel Maintenance
National Highways has published a programme of overnight closures at the Dartford Crossing for the week beginning 2 November.
Date | Planned closure | Advertised hours |
|---|---|---|
Monday 2 – Friday 6 November | West tunnel, northbound | 10pm–5:30am each night |
Saturday 7 November | West tunnel, northbound | 10pm–6am |
Sunday 8 November | East tunnel, northbound | 10:30pm–5:30am |
The works form part of the crossing's continuing maintenance programme.
During west tunnel closures, the east tunnel is normally used for northbound traffic, subject to vehicle height restrictions and the published traffic-management arrangements.
When the east tunnel is closed, taller vehicles may face additional restrictions.
National Highways advises that northbound vehicles exceeding 4.8 metres in height cannot use the east tunnel.
Commercial vehicle operators should check the applicable restrictions before travelling.
The QEII Bridge ordinarily carries southbound traffic and is not listed for a planned closure in the current weekly programme.
Motorist information: Overnight travellers should check National Highways updates before approaching the crossing, particularly where tunnel restrictions may affect their vehicle.

2. Dartford: A225 Hawley Road Overnight Closure
Kent County Council has issued a temporary order affecting the A225 Hawley Road at Hawley, near Dartford.
The restriction is scheduled to begin on or after Monday 2 November and may operate for up to three nights.
Location: A225 Hawley Road beneath the M25 overbridge.
Advertised hours: 10pm–5:30am.
Reason: Installation of headroom signage for abnormal-load and over-height vehicles.
The published alternative route uses Parsonage Lane, Darenth Hill, Green Street Green Road, Princes Road and Lowfield Street.
The closure concerns a specific section of the A225 rather than the entire road.
Drivers using Hawley Road for local access or as part of an overnight journey should consult the temporary traffic notice and follow signed diversions.

3. Woolwich: Continuing A206 Restrictions
Transport for London continues to list several works affecting the A206 through Woolwich.
Woolwich Church Street and Woolwich Ferry Roundabout
Works associated with the installation of a segregated cycle lane remain listed around the Woolwich Ferry Roundabout.
The published programme extends into July 2027.
Restrictions may affect sections of Woolwich Church Street and Woolwich High Street.
Woolwich Church Street at Warspite Road
A westbound lane restriction remains listed as part of the cycleway improvement programme.
The current advertised period extends into March 2027.
Woolwich Church Street at Prospect Vale
TfL also lists a westbound lane closure associated with cycleway works, with the published programme extending to 6 December 2026.
These restrictions are part of longer-running works rather than newly announced full road closures.
TfL's published information identifies the possibility of delays, but does not establish that traffic is currently congested.

4. Plumstead: Temporary Traffic Signals on the A206
TfL lists temporary traffic signals on Plumstead Road at its junction with Pettman Crescent.
The works are being undertaken by the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Published end date: Friday 6 November 2026.
The restrictions affect both directions of Plumstead Road.
This route connects Woolwich, Plumstead and the wider Thamesmead area, making it relevant to local journeys and commercial vehicle movements.
Temporary signals can reduce the available road capacity while works are taking place.
However, actual delays will depend on traffic volumes and the operation of the signals.
Drivers should consult TfL's current traffic information before travelling.

5. Bexley, Erith and Belvedere: Local Works Outlook
Published roadworks records identify several short-duration activities across the London Borough of Bexley during the week.
These include planned restrictions in parts of Bexleyheath and Erith, with individual works scheduled between 2 and 7 November.
The published Street Manager-derived listings include Heathview Drive and Woolwich Road in the Bexleyheath area, together with Hurst Road, Eastern Way and Picardy Manorway in the wider Erith area.
These records indicate planned traffic-management activity. They do not independently confirm that each closure has commenced, remains in force or affects the full length of the named road.
The exact location, timing and status of individual works should therefore be checked against the relevant highway authority's current notices before travel.
For this reason, no specific congestion forecast or diversion recommendation is made for these local schemes.

6. Eltham: Remembrance Parade Road Closure on Sunday 8 November
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has published a temporary traffic order for a Remembrance parade in Eltham.
Date: Sunday 8 November 2026.
Affected road: Eltham High Street between Westmount Road and Wythfield Road.
The notice provides for a temporary road closure beginning at 7am, with the parade expected to require approximately four hours.
Parking restrictions are scheduled from midnight on 8 November.
The published order also restricts vehicle entry, exit, movement and waiting within the affected section while the closure is in force.
Motorists planning to travel through Eltham town centre on Sunday morning should check the council's latest information and observe local signage.

7. What Motorists Should Consider This Week
The published works programme indicates several areas where drivers may encounter temporary restrictions.
For overnight journeys between London and Kent, the Dartford Crossing maintenance programme is particularly relevant.
Within South East London, the continuing A206 works remain important for journeys through Woolwich and Plumstead.
Local restrictions in Bexley and Erith may affect individual streets, while the Eltham Remembrance parade introduces a separate planned closure on Sunday morning.
Roadworks schedules can change because of weather, operational requirements or the early completion of works.
A planned closure does not necessarily mean that a road will remain closed for its entire advertised period.
Drivers should use current official travel information when planning journeys.
Looking Ahead
The week of 2–8 November includes a combination of scheduled strategic-road maintenance, continuing urban highway improvements and short-duration local restrictions.
The Dartford Crossing remains the principal location to monitor for overnight cross-river travel.
Meanwhile, the A206 works in Woolwich and Plumstead continue to form part of the wider local traffic-management picture.
ROBELIUM Newsroom will continue to distinguish published roadworks programmes from confirmed incidents and observed traffic conditions.
The purpose of this weekly briefing is to provide motorists with a clear, evidence-based overview of relevant developments across South East London and the Dartford area.
