Several works are now reaching their planned end dates, but the A206, Woolwich Common and Dartford remain the main areas to watch this week.

South East London Road Network Outlook | 14–21 September 2026 Traffic Intelligence | Monday 14 September 2026

What changed since last week?

The most important change is that the A20 Eltham Road westbound closure was scheduled to finish on Sunday 13 September, bringing a long-running gas-main restriction to an end if works completed as planned. TfL’s bus diversion notice also carried 13 September as the end date.

At the same time, some restrictions remain very much active.

Temporary signals at A205 Academy Road / Shooters Hill Road continue into late September, while the A206 Plumstead Road / Pettman Crescent works are due to reach their planned completion on Monday 21 September.

That makes this week a useful transition point: some August works are clearing, while several longer-running schemes remain.

Woolwich and the A206

The A206 continues to be the main local corridor under sustained pressure.

At Plumstead Road and Pettman Crescent, temporary traffic signals and a lane closure remain in place, with the current programme due to finish on 21 September.

Further west, restrictions around Woolwich Church Street and Woolwich Ferry Roundabout remain part of the longer Cycleway construction programme, extending well into 2027.

For regular drivers, the practical position is unchanged: Woolwich remains more affected by cumulative local works than by one major closure.

Woolwich Common and Shooters Hill

Temporary traffic management around Academy Road and Shooters Hill Road remains one of the more noticeable local issues.

The junction continues to operate under utility-related restrictions, and this remains relevant for traffic moving between Woolwich, Eltham and the South Circular.

Nearby, the earlier Red Lion Lane works have now cleared from the weekly picture.

That is a small but useful improvement.

Blackwall and Silvertown

There are no major planned daytime closures of the Blackwall Tunnel or Silvertown Tunnel identified for this week.

However, one important change arrives at the end of the reporting period.

From 21 September 2026, charges at both tunnels will increase in line with inflation. Charging hours remain unchanged at 06:00–22:00, seven days a week.

For drivers who use the crossings regularly, this is the main change to watch next Monday.

Woolwich Ferry

The Woolwich Ferry is currently shown as operating with good service, with no planned pier closures listed.

As usual, the bigger issue is access from the south, where the A206 construction programme continues to affect the approach.

Dartford Crossing

Dartford remains the strongest strategic traffic issue this week.

National Highways has confirmed:

14–17 September — west tunnel closed overnight 22:00–05:30

18 September — west tunnel closed 23:00–06:00

19 September — QEII Bridge closed overnight from 21:00 until 09:00

20 September — east tunnel closed 22:30–05:30, with no access for vehicles over 4.8 metres.

The QEII Bridge closure on Saturday night into Sunday morning is therefore the key strategic event of the week.

Northbound and southbound traffic will operate under altered arrangements while the bridge is unavailable, so drivers using the crossing overnight should check National Highways before departure.

Greenwich Peninsula and The O2

The event programme is lighter than last week, but still worth noting.

The O2 hosts Hilary Duff on Tuesday 15 September, with smaller events later in the week including activity at indigo at The O2 on 18 and 19 September.

Compared with the previous week’s run of major arena events, this should mean less repeated evening pressure around Greenwich Peninsula.

The usual hotspots remain:

A102
Blackwall Lane
Millennium Way
Blackwall and Silvertown approaches

End dates to watch this week

14 September — temporary signals at Woolwich Manor Way / Tollgate Road were scheduled to reach completion.

21 September — A206 Plumstead Road / Pettman Crescent works currently due to finish.

21 September — higher Blackwall and Silvertown tunnel charges take effect.

Longer-running works around Woolwich Church Street and Charlton remain in place beyond this week.

ROBELIUM Observation

This week feels less like the start of a new disruption cycle and more like the end of several older works beginning to come into view.

Eltham Road has reached its scheduled completion point.

Woolwich Manor Way is also due to clear.

Plumstead Road is now approaching its 21 September target.

That should gradually improve some local journeys, although the wider A206 corridor will remain affected by longer-term works.

The biggest strategic concern this week shifts back to Dartford, particularly the full overnight QEII Bridge closure on 19 September.

So the overall outlook for 14–21 September is:

gradual improvement on some South East London local routes, continuing A206 disruption, lighter event pressure around Greenwich Peninsula, and a more difficult overnight picture at Dartford.
